I couldn't resist taking some photos of the "wall of china" at one of my favorite coffee spots Xococava located near St Clair and Yonge in Toronto. Not only do they make divine chocolates (great for holiday gifts which is why I dropped in this week) they also make one of the best cappuccinos in the area. The shop is long and narrow and you cannot miss "the wall" as you sit right at it while sipping your coffee.
I always get a kick out of the wall of broken china--creative, fun and irreverent. There are literally hundreds of broken pieces of china smashed and embedded into the plaster wall. Sometimes you catch the teapot spout sticking out of the wall, and other times the salt and pepper shakers or cup handles that have seen better days. The best combination of design and function that always puts a smile on my face. Since my last article on the anatomy of a teacup, I now offer another take on the deconstruction of the china dish.
